Child Support and Maintenance
Math4Law is the trusted engine for Colorado domestic relations financials. In 2026, the Colorado Division of Child Support Services officially selected the platform as the calculation tool for child support services in every county across the state. This logic is utilized by over 500 law firms, representing the majority of Colorado’s family law practitioners, from sole practitioners to the state's largest firms.
The application is built to evolve alongside legislative shifts, with automatic updates that ensure calculations remain compliant whenever the law changes. This includes full integration of the latest Child Support (C.R.S. 14-10-115) iteration effective March 1, 2026, as well as the current Maintenance (C.R.S. 14-10-114) guidelines.
The platform is entirely cloud-based, allowing calculations to be performed directly in a web browser with nothing to install. These professional-grade tools, long utilized by the legal community, are now available for pro-se parties, providing every user with the same precision and logic used by Colorado attorneys.
Colorado law firms receive a one-month free trial to test the full system, while all users can register and create case files with no credit card required. To support all families, calculations and downloads are provided at no cost for low-income cases.
Court-Ready Forms and Professional Exhibits
The application provides comprehensive output options for every stage of a legal proceeding. For calculations effective March 1, 2026, the system generates the new unified worksheet. For cases utilizing prior versions of the law, the system generates the traditional Worksheet A or Worksheet B as required.
While the State of Colorado has not released an official JDF for maintenance, the application generates a Maintenance Worksheet modeled after the standard forms accepted by various judicial districts. Beyond these standard formats, the platform also produces a compact exhibit format for both child support and maintenance, designed for clear and efficient presentation during mediations or hearings.
Users have three primary ways to manage and distribute their completed documents:
Download PDF: Generate and save court-ready PDF files directly to your device.
Print Preview (subscription required): Access a preview mode to review the document and adjust the layout before finalization.
Direct Email (subscription required): Send the completed forms to yourself, clients, or opposing counsel directly from within the application.
Comprehensive Calculation Features
Child Support High-Income Extrapolation
The Colorado child support guidelines provide a schedule of basic obligations for combined monthly adjusted gross incomes up to $40,000 ($30,000 before March 1, 2026). For cases exceeding this limit, the application allows the user to choose between extrapolating the income to calculate a proportional obligation or capping the obligation at the maximum guideline amount. This flexibility ensures that high-income scenarios are handled with precision, providing the necessary data to support specific legal arguments or settlement positions.
Different Visitation Schedules
The application allows for the entry of specific visitation schedules for each child. When schedules vary between siblings, the system automatically calculates the average number of overnights and applies that figure to the worksheet.
Overnights Estimation
Manually calculating overnights across school years and holidays is often complex and prone to error. The application includes a dedicated estimator that allows users to build a realistic annual schedule. By defining a base school-year cadence and adding or replacing weeks for summer breaks, spring breaks, and holidays, the system automatically totals the overnights for the year. This provides a precise figure for the child support worksheet while creating a clear record of the parenting time assumptions used.
Manual or Calculated Maintenance
The application calculates spousal maintenance in accordance with C.R.S. 14-10-114. If a maintenance amount has already been predetermined or agreed upon, the user has the option to enter it manually. In either case, the software ensures the maintenance figure is accurately integrated into the child support calculation as a required income adjustment.
Maintenance High-Income Extrapolation
The Colorado maintenance guidelines under C.R.S. 14-10-114 provide a formulaic calculation for combined monthly adjusted gross incomes up to $20,000. For cases exceeding this limit, the application allows the user to choose between extrapolating the income to calculate a proportional maintenance obligation or capping the amount at the maximum guideline level. This ensures that high-income scenarios are handled with mathematical precision, providing the necessary data to support specific legal arguments or settlement positions.
Income Calculators
The application includes specialized calculators to accurately convert various pay structures into the monthly gross income figures required by the guidelines.
Hourly Rate to Monthly Income This tool calculates monthly income based on hourly rates, standard weekly hours, and weeks worked per year. To further streamline the process, the calculator includes one-click presets for current Colorado and Denver minimum wages, as well as standard 32 or 40-hour work weeks.
Annual and Year-to-Date Salary For salaried individuals, the application provides a quick conversion from annual pay to monthly income. This calculator also supports year-to-date (YTD) earnings; users can enter a partial annual amount and specify the number of months it represents to determine the correct monthly average.
Side-by-Side Scenario Comparison
The application allows for the creation of multiple calculation scenarios that can be viewed and edited side-by-side. Users can modify any variable, such as income adjustments, maintenance amounts, or overnight totals, within a specific scenario to immediately see how those changes impact the final child support or maintenance figures. This comparative view provides a clear, data-driven foundation for evaluating different settlement options and understanding the financial implications of various legal arguments.
